Billups, Drew Set To Join Clippers Coaching Staff

    November 10, 2020

Los Angeles Clippers have added more personnel to their coaching staff after it was revealed that Chauncey Billups and Larry Drew would join the team.

Los Angeles Clippers recently appointed Tyronn Lue as their head coach after the departure of Doc Rivers who left after the team lost to the Denver Nuggets in the semi-finals of the Western Conference.

Before the conference finals, a second-place finish was made possible after they went 49-23 during the season.

With the appointment of Tyronn Lue, the team is expected to make another attempt at the championship, Chauncey Billups and Larry Dew will give Lue the much needed experienced assistants on the bench.

Billups retired from the NBA at the end of the 2013/2014 season after 17 years in the NBA while Drew was previously the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks, Milwaukee Bucks and Cleveland Cavaliers.

In five seasons in the NBA, Drew has a 162-226 record as a coach.

Meanwhile, as the NBPA agrees to a reduced 72-game NBA season for the 2020-21 season as well as a December 22 start date, the NBA players union vice president Andre Iguodala has reiterated that the players’ health is the biggest concern.

He made this view after the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) tentatively agreed to a December 22 start date.

“We’re trying to get a good feel for the full body of players and giving them an understanding of what the climate looks like, all the different scenarios, What it looks like starting in December? What it looks like starting in January? But our number one concern is player health, being in the Covid-19 environment and also that quick turnaround.” Iguodala said.

Players will have to resume to camp on December 1; the previous season only ended on October 11 when the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Miami Heat to the title.
