Celtics star Jayson Tatum calls himself one of the best in the world but believes that there’s still a lot to improve

The NBA currently has a number of superstars who are either established or are on their way to greatness. One such player who has caught the eyeballs recently with his growth and development as a superstar for the Boston Celtics is Jayson Tatum. The 24-year-old alongwith Jaylen Brown and Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart guided the Celtics to the NBA Finals which they eventually lost to the Golden State Warriors.

Recently Tatum sat in an interview with The Athletic’s Jared Weiss and there he shared a lot of things in and around his NBA career. Starting from his growth as a superstar and how there are several things that he can still improve on to his experience of the league over the years.

“(I learned) that I’m 24 and one of the best players in the world and that I will compete against whoever and take on that challenge. In that same breath, I feel like there’s so much I could be better at, and I think that’s the exciting part,” Tatum stated.

However it is not the arrogance that is speaking as he understands that he is a special talent and that is why he is where he is at right now. He believes that he can get a whole lot better with new learnings and experiences.  Therefore he added, “That I’m at where I’m at, where there’s so much more I can be, so much more I can learn and so many more experiences to go through.”

The main standout point for Tatum is his underrated defensive quality. He has turned into one of the best two-way players in the league and has joined players like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kawhi Leonard who are equally good on both ends of the court. His ever improving defence has been a big part of this Celtics team that has had the best defense last season.

He simply had a great season but sadly it did not end well for him in the NBA Finals as the Celtics kept waiting for his performances to come at the big stage and the fans were utterly disappointed as the Warriors finished it off with a 4-2 win over them and lifted the title at the TD Garden proving a strong statement. So it will be interesting to see how the Celtics and their poster boy Jayson Tatum will turn out with the additions that they have made for the upcoming season.
