Frank Vogel out as coach of LA Lakers after 3 seasons – Report

    April 12, 2022

LA Lakers is all set to part ways with their head coach Frank Vogel after three seasons, ESPN sources reported on Monday. It has been reported that Vogel will be told about the franchise’s decision on Monday. Vogel had led the Lakers to glory in the 2019-20 season but they had a horrid run in the ongoing season.

The Lakers had a 33-49 record and they could not even qualify for the play-in tournament after losing to Phoenix Suns on Tuesday. However, they won their last game of the season against Denver Nuggets by 146-141.

Vogel revealed he hasn’t been told anything by the team’s management regarding his coaching agreement. In fact, Vogel received a one-year extension through 2022-23 this past offseason.

“I haven’t been told s— and I’m going to enjoy tonight’s game, celebrate what these young guys did in terms of scratching and clawing and getting back in this game and getting a W, and we’ll deal with tomorrow, tomorrow,” he told reporters during his postgame media availability.

Laker’s season was hampered by injuries to key players such as LeBron James and Anthony Davis. In fact, the Big three of the club – James, Davis, and Russell Westbrook played in only 21 matches together, in which they had a record of 11-10.

Meanwhile, Vogel had come under the scanner after the Lakers’ dismal performances. Lakers player Malik Monk credited the head coach for maintaining his cool despite being under the pump.

“He kept his cool the whole time,” Monk said. “Didn’t talk about no problems like that. Didn’t talk about anything like that, man. He came in and worked and always gave us a great game plan … He was always about us. It was never really about him. And I praise him for that, man. I know that was pretty hard on him, but he never talked about it. He never changed his demeanor.”
