Miami Heat favourite Tyler Herro turned clutch as they defeated the Detroit Pistons 112-100. The reigning sixth-man of the year proved his worth in the final quarter as he dropped 10 out of the his 19 points in the finals three minutes of the game to propel the Heat to a win over the Pistons.
After the game, Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra said that he would just write fourth quarter in Herro’s notebook and the rest will be handled by the youngster who according to him has a clutch gene.
“I’m just gonna write fourth quarter on every notepad to Tyler and every other quarter because he has that clutch gene. It doesn’t matter what’s happening during the course of the game,” Spoelstra said.
Tyler Herro is someone who loves to rise to the occasion and these moments are tailor made for someone like him who enjoys the limelight a lot and can deliver when a thousand eyeballs are on them. He simply relishes the pressure and weight of expectations.
“He’s a killer down the stretch. He loves those moments, he lives for those moments. He’ll knock some really tough shots during those moments,” Spoelstra added.
The Pistons are the worst team in the whole of NBA right now as they have a record of 16-56 and are right at the bottom in the Eastern Conference. But they were fighting for pride and they were playing really well against the Heat who had plenty at stake. The Pistons had a lead over the Heat at the end of the second quarter and finished the third quarter with a 81-70 lead.
The Pistons lost their last encounter against the Heat by 116-96 and in that game also Herro fired with 34 points and here again he saw trouble and jumped right into it, ultimately saving his team.
The Heat are currently in seventh position in the East with a 39-34 record. They badly needed a win after they lost to Chicago Bulls in their last match before this. Hence Spoelstra was more excited on how Herro understood the situation and threw himself in. The Heat are well placed for a direct playoffs spot but they will be looking to push even higher.
