I told my team the last play was my fault – Anthony Davis after loss against Dallas Mavericks

    March 20, 2023

Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis has once taken the blame on his shoulders after their 111-110 buzzer loss against Dallas Mavericks on Friday night.

Davis fouled Mavericks’ Maxi Kleber on a 3-point attempt and Kleber drained all three free throws to reduce the Lakers’ lead to one.

“I already came in and told them the last play was my fault,” said Davis. “It’s tough all the way across the board,” Davis said after his 26 points and 10 rebounds went in vain.

On the other hand, Wenyen Gabriel put his weight behind Anthony Davis after the narrow loss against the Mavericks.

“I mean, AD is our leader,” Gabriel said. “He’s our best player right now, and that just shows that taking accountability as being the best player. That’s something that’s important for the continuity as a team and having trust in each other, and obviously, we trust AD. That was just a moment. It’s obviously not just on AD, but him taking accountability for that is something that is important instead of pointing fingers in terms of chemistry going forward.”

Davis admitted that they are missing their opportunities in the crunch situations of the game. With only 11 regular season matches remaining, the Lakers will have to pull up their socks.

“We’re missing our opportunities, for sure. It’s frustrating,” Davis said.

But he added: “We’re still in a position to do something special, with the way we started.”

The Lakers now have a 34-37 record and they are in 11th position in the Western Conference standings. Thus, they will need to turn the tables in the upcoming matches. Darvin Ham’s team will next face Orlando Magic on Sunday night.
