The respect is mutual between Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo and Golden State Warriors’ talisman Steph Curry. Recently, the Greek Freak tipped Curry as the best player in the world after his impressive performance in the previous edition of the NBA, in which he led the Dubs to glory.
Curry was awarded the NBA Finals MVP for the first time in his glorious career after they defeated Boston Celtics by 4-2. The linchpin averaged 31.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 2.0 steal while shooting 48.2% overall in the NBA Finals as he was at his best.
On the other hand, Giannis Antetokounmpo bagged the NBA Finals MVP award in the 2020-21 season when he led Milwaukee Bucks to the championship. In fact, this was also the first time when Giannis won the prestigious award.
Curry revealed that he was thinking the same thing about the 27-year-old from Athens when he had a stellar season for his team.
“Thank you, Giannis! … I don’t know if it’s gamesmanship to set the table. I always say the same thing when you face the champions, that’s part of the nature of the league. We all wanna win the championship and we look at the team that’s the last team standing, who’s playing the best.
“I was thinking the same thing about him last year coming off their run. I appreciate the compliment, it’s not gonna soften me up and get complacent at all. But, I do appreciate the respect of your peers to go out and say something like that.”
Antetokounmpo had said, “I think the best player in the world is the person that is the last one standing. It’s the person that takes his team to the final, to the finish line, and helps them win the game, win games and become the champion.”
GSW will begin its NBA campaign against the LA Lakers on the 19th of October.
