Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has opened up about the pressure that all the teams go through during the final stretch of games as all the team are trying to win and overtake one another. He shares that teams are very close to each other and a couple of results here and there may leave your team in a spot of bother.
The fact that the reigning champions, Golden State Warriors are in this mix, makes things more interesting. The Dubs generally don’t fight for a spot in the playoffs and therefore it is more difficult for Kerr and his players to overcome this situation of immense pressure.
“Well, it’s fun,” Kerr said before Golden State plays the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday. “We’d rather not be in this mix, but it is fun. We got nine games left, and every one of them is crucial. For the teams that end up surviving this, it might be an advantage going into the playoffs.
Kerr shares that the playoffs have already set in as every match right now is very crucial with other teams also fighting to up the ladder. He believes that a couple of result may throw a team out of the top six or may push them out of reckoning.
“It’s almost like we’ve already started the playoffs. Everything is a possibility. We could finish in the top six. … You can finish 11th and be out of it altogether,” Kerr added.
The Golden State Warriors were on a five-game away trip starting with a game against the Los Angeles Clippers on March 15. Considering the Warriors and their away form this season, Kerr was genuine in distress. The Warriors hadn’t won an away game since 30th January. The tension was justified as they lost three consecutive games against the Clippers, Atlanta Hawks and Memphis Grizzlies.
They however got the better of Houston Rockets. Out of their eight away wins, two have come against the Rockets. Despite the win, Kerr was not too pleased with how they played. But he now prepares for their last away game against the Dallas Mavericks which they desperately need to win to build momentum. With nine games left in the regular season, Kerr and the Warriors would like to win as many as possible to finished higher in the points ladder. The Warriors are currently sixth in the Western Conference with a record of 37-36. They will have to pull up their socks if they want to defend their crown.
