Jay Williams feels Phoenix Suns should win the next NBA Championship after the team they have assembled

    June 22, 2023

The Phoenix Suns have bolstered their ranks by trading in Bradley Beal in exchange for Chris Paul. Beal joins a star cast of Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Deandre Ayton. It is easily the best super four in the NBA. However many people believe there will be added pressure on Durant and the Suns to win the Championship in the upcoming season.

Jay Williams on ESPN’s ‘Get Up’ highlighted how much pressure will be on Kevin Durant and the Suns as a whole to win the Championship after they got this superteam together. “There is no better top four in the league,” Williams said, “than Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, you think about the likes of what they add with Bradley Beal and then Deandre Ayton. If you could put the right pieces together they should win a title. There’s no doubt about it,” Williams stated.

The Suns have a very talented lineup and the mix is really very good as there are players with several different strengths. However, they will receive a lot of flak if they don’t go on to win the NBA Championship in the upcoming season. With such a team, there aren’t many excuses they can give if they fail to achieve it like in the 2022-23 NBA season.

Bradley Beal was the latest player that they got from the Washington Wizards in exchange for Chris Paul, Landry Shamet and a number of second-round picks and pick swaps.

It was a gutsy decision to trade Paul but considering they were getting Beal in return, it turned out to be a no-brainer for the Suns. Beal in the last regular season was superb for the Wizards. He averaged 23.2 points per game (50.6% shooting, including 36.5% from 3-point range) and 5.4 assists.

Beal’s addition will add more scoring depth to the Suns’ roster and reduce the burden on Durant and Booker. They both can now play their natural game as Beal takes up the mantle of scoring.

The trio can also try their hand as a playmaker and there have been instances where Beal’s facilitator skills have been downplayed by the critics. He can b a good playmaking if the Suns need him to play that role.

The Suns need to be very well-versed in the role they are offering to the players. Or else things can go down south very quickly as it happened this season with their second-round exit. It was devastating for the players to lose in the second round of the playoffs when critics, media and fans were considering them as favourites to win it all. However, they need to shrug off that feeling quickly and set things in motion.

“It sucked,” Durant said after their second-round exit. “It was a bad feeling. It was embarrassing. They came out and hit us in the mouth. We couldn’t recover. You got to give them credit for being a disciplined team.”

He will hope that things will improve for the Suns, especially with Beal’s arrival. He has suddenly turned this team into favourites again as fans want to see this team in action next season.
