Just making easy reads – Russell Westbrook on zero turnovers against Sacramento Kings

    January 6, 2022

LA Lakers talisman Russell Westbrook had come under the scrutiny after he conceded nine turnovers against Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday. Westbrook’s performance was questioned by the media despite the LA Lakers’ 108-103 win as he conceded nine out of the team’s total 15 turnovers.

However, the 14-year old veteran in the NBA bounced back in style against Sacramento Kings as he returned with zero turnovers. Apart from that, the 33-year old added 19 points, seven rebounds, two assists as the LA Lakers won by 122-114 and they registered their 20th win of the season.

In fact, Westbrook came up with zero turnover performance nearly after six years in the league as he had recorded his last back in 2016 and thus ended 407 games long streak.

When asked about the reason behind his zero turnovers, Westbrook said, “Just making easy reads”.

Russell reckons his better handling of the ball should help his team as he added, “It should help… We had a season-low five. I don’t know if that’s realistic, but it shows that if we put our mind to it, we can do it as a team.”

On the other hand, Westbrook revealed that his role in the team always keeps on changing and it depends on the opposition and situation of the game.

“My job changes every night. Sometimes I’m in the dunker’s spot a lot of the game, sometimes I’ve got the ball in my hands, sometimes I don’t, sometimes I’m a screener, sometimes I’m cutting, I mean it’s probably difficult for them to know how I am able to play in the past, you probably have to ask a lot of those guys that but for me personally it’s kind of varying just based on I guess the game itself.”

Westbrook will look to continue his good form for the LA Lakers. The Men in Yellow and Purple will next take on Atlanta Hawks on Friday night.
