The Brooklyn Nets are in a very weird situation as the talks from the offseason have continued into the new season and things have not been great for them both on and off the court. The Nets have recently sacked their coach Steve Nash after a poor start to the season. While criticisms are flying in, most people believe that the players are responsible for Nash’s dismissal. The list also includes former NBA star turned analyst JJ Redick who feels that the players are equally accountable for this poor start of the season and Nash’s sacking.
Kevin Durant revealed that he was in shock after hearing about the dismissal of Steve Nash but he also feels that it is natural in the NBA and players need to focus on the next training session and next game especially when the games are coming thick and fast. He however admitted that the team environment was not healthy and this stint does not hamper Steve Nash’ basketball iq as he feels that it just did not work out in any way.
“You’re always shocked when a move like this happens,” Nets forward Kevin Durant said. “But it’s normal in the NBA. It’s about getting ready for the game tonight. It’s a quick turn always in the league, especially during the season. You’ve got practice, games coming up, so you can’t think too much about it. It was on my mind for a little bit today.”
Despite Durant saying only good things about his former coach, JJ Redick believes that there should be some accountability from the players as well. He highlights how player empowerment is good and he supports it completely but in this situation he clearly believes that the players have the true power to dismiss or bring in at their will.
“I am a fan of the player empowerment era,” Redick said. What has happened with the Nets since they signed Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving is a great example of player empowerment gone too far.”
It is true that both Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant have not done anything since joining the Brooklyn Nets that will leave their legacy behind in this franchise or even for the people. They have struggled to make things work as a unit and on top of that they have several issues on and off the court.
The Nets are currently struggling with a 2-6 record after eight games into the new season as they recently lost against the Chicago Bulls. However the fans will hope that with a new coach their fortunes will change soon.
According to reports Brooklyn Nets are interested in Ime Udoka. The Celtics coach who guided them to the NBA FInals in his debut coaching season was suspended by the organization. However now as things stand it looks like the Nets will take this situation to their advantage and snap him up.
