Kyrie Irving says he’s opting in to $36.5 million option with Brooklyn Nets

    June 29, 2022

Brooklyn Nets talisman Kyrie Irving has put paid to all the speculations around him. Irving has decided to opt into $36.5 million option to stay with Brooklyn Nets. He confirmed the same to the Athletic on Monday.

“Normal people keep the world going, but those who dare to be different lead us into tomorrow,” Irving told The Athletic. “I’ve made my decision to opt in. See you in the fall. A11even.”

In fact, Irving had made a list of teams he was keen to join in case he didn’t play for the Brooklyn Nets in the next season. But according to ESPN, only LA Lakers had shown interest in Kyrie Irving.

As Irving could not find the sign and trade deal, he has decided to make use of the player option, according to the sources.

Meanwhile, the 30-year-old averaged 27.4 points, 5.8 assists and 4.4 rebounds in the previous season but played in only 29 regular-season games and had a decent season for the Nets.

But Irving decided not to take the vaccination shot against Covid-19 and thus he could not play at home in New York because of City’s vaccination mandate for employees.

On the other hand, Kyrie Irving also hit back at Barstool Sports. Irving asked the Twitter handler to show him some respect. Barstool Sports shared a post in which Batman villain Joker is seen walking with blasts taking place in the background.

They shared the post with a caption, “Kyrie Irving destroying every NBA team he has ever been a part of”.

But Irving commented, “*NBA champion and *Gold medalist * Kyrie Irving. Just thought the statement needed a correction as y’all continue to make money off of my NAME and countless others.”

There is no doubt that Brooklyn Nets have a potent team on paper as they have players like Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Thus, they would look to come up with a collective effort in the next season and deliver the goods for the team.
