The Los Angeles Lakers somehow managed to eke out a win against the Detroit Pistons, in a game that went to double overtime. However, Frank Vogel’s men eventually managed to win the match 135-129 but it was too close for comfort for the reigning champions.
The win was a relief for LeBron James and his men as they are considered the favourites to win the championship again this season. So losing to a team that is barely making it to the playoffs in the East at the moment would not have been good for their reputation. Also considering the fact that most of the people say that the Lakers are probably better than what they were in the last season.
The Lakers needed to answer a few questions after last week’s loss against the Pistons and therefore the win was of prime importance. But the Pistons look to uplift their games against the best teams of the West as they have been given excellent against the Lakers and the Jazz. Despite missing top players like Blake Griffin, Derrick Rose and Wayne Ellington.
Vogel’s men at one point in the third quarter led by 17 points and most people thought it would be another dominant win for the Lakers. However, Josh Jackson had different ideas as he paired with Jeremi Grant and went on a scoring spree. Jackson registered 21 of his total 28 points in the second half as Grant also came up with his best as he ended the match with 32 points.
Therefore the Pistons forced the Lakers to overtime and held them for large parts of the second half. It was down to Anthony Davis and LeBron James to bail out the Lakers as the duo came up with three triples to take the game away from the Pistons. It was a back to back triple from James which killed the game for Dwane Casey’s men.
Harrison Faigen revealed why Bron was celebrating after his last shot. As per him, James said, “I was just ready to go… My heart is not sustainable for two overtimes at this stage of my career… I got a bottle of win waiting for me at home… Bottle of *wine*. Freudian slip there.”
The Lakers barely saved themselves from another defeat and for the most of it they need to blame themselves. The reigning champions have not been at their best in defense and also they had a whopping 22 turnovers. So it is surprising that they still won but they need to get these issues sorted ahead of the upcoming matches.
