“Luka Doncic is the guy,” Warriors superstar Stephen Curry feels Luka Doncic will be the next big thing in the NBA

    August 24, 2023

Stephen Curry will be entering his 15th season in the NBA once the 2023-24 season begins. So over these years, he has seen plenty of talented players feature in the league but only a few have caught his attention.

In his recent appearance at Gilbert Arenas podcast, Curry was asked about his thought on the next big star in the NBA. His reply shocked a few people. He feels Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic can be the biggest star in the NBA.

“Luka Doncic is the guy that’s right on the precipice of accomplishing all those accolades and what he’s about as a player. That threshold of how do you just crack through? I hope it’s not now but when you play against him, you can feel it,” Curry replied.

The 35-year-old Warrior superstar also takes Trae Young’s name who is deeply influenced by Curry’s gameplay. The Warrior talisman believes that the Hawks are taking time to figure themselves out but he likes the leadership and the quality that Young brings to the team.

“Even like Trae Young, a dude who’s been in the conference finals already in his career. They’re trying to figure out the right combination around him to complement what he brings to the team in terms of his leadership and his ability to win games.”

He also adds how there are too many talented players coming up and feels that the league is in good hands. But he also wants them to have patience as they have a lot to achieve and prove. “There’s a lot of young talent, man. The league is in good hands, in that respect but I just hope it’s not too soon ‘cause we still got a lot to do,” Curry added.

Curry also took the names of Anthony Edwards, who is currently balling for Team USA at the FIBA World Cup and Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum. The Celtics star has reached four Eastern Conference finals and even reached the finals where they lost to Curry’s Warriors. Hence he feels that these players can accomplish a lot in the coming years.

Edwards, who has shown exponential growth in the NBA is now out to prove himself in national colours. Recently coach Steve Kerr has praised the Minnesota Timberwolves star player.

For that matter even Luka Doncic has nothing to show for his talent yet. However, he was brilliant in the West Conference finals in 2022. Doncic was undoubtedly the best player in that series and still his team lost the series in five games as the Warriors eventually went on to win the title.

Even Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins who were Doncic’s primary defenders in that series had high praises for the youngster.
