    Stephen Curry

NBA Analyst Rob Parker questions Stephen Curry’s position in the all time top 10 greats following his performance in the 2016 Finals

    June 20, 2022

Stephen Curry led the Golden State Warriors from the front as he bagged his fourth NBA Championship and also won his maiden Finals MVP  for his sensational performance in the Finals against the Boston Celtics. This was the fourth title for the Warriors as well in the last eight years and seventh overall.

Therefore they are calling that the Dubs dynasty is back as it was on pause for the last couple of years due to Klay Thompson’s injury and other factors. But once the Splash Brothers were on court they created their magic and steamrolled most teams to reach the finals where after an early hiccup it was mostly smooth sailing for Stephen Curry’s men.

The Chef was in mood as he came up with some insane performances to help the Warriors clinch the title in six games in Boston. He averaged 31.2 points per game and had a very efficient shooting percentage of 43.7 from behind the arc in the Finals against the Celtics.

While many people believe him to be among the top 10 all time greats to ever grace the NBA, a lot of people counter it with 2016 Finals where he could not guide his team to the title. The Warriors had a 3-1 lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers but still they ended up losing the series. They lost three straight games for the first time that season and surprisingly two of those games were in Oakland.

The Warriors had a tremendous regular season as the Warriors entered the playoffs with a 73-9 regular season record. But when his team needed him in the Finals, he could not come up with his best performances as the NBA saw a miraculous turnaround in the Finals by the Cavaliers.

Recently, like many analysts, Chris Broussard and Rob Parker also discussed Curry’s position in the all time top 10 NBA greats. There Parker shared how Kevin Durant bailed him out in the Finals. “He’s a Top 10 player who couldn’t win one game on a 73-win team. Lost three straight games for the first time the whole season, and lost two of the three games at home, including Game 7. Without the two wins by Durant, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.”

While it was certainly a dull phase in his career, still winning four championships is a huge thing for Stephen Curry. He has been tremendous for the Warriors and if he manages to win another title in the coming 2-3 years, then people might forget the 2016 Finals.
