“One step at a time,” Paul George advises young aspiring basketball players to envision being the best in the NBA

LA Clippers star Paul George has been a stalwart in the NBA since he was drafted number tenth by the Indiana Pacers. In his 13 seasons in the league, he has made it to eight All-Star teams and six All-NBA teams among other achievements.

During a recent episode of Podcast P he imparts his experience and knowledge for the young and emerging stars in the NBA. He shared what it takes to be successful in the NBA. He spoke about envisioning the player they want to become before they can actually become that player.

He shared how a good shooter envisions himself as the best shooter in the league. If he does not see himself as the best, he will never be the best. “I think you have to have a vision of how you want to be first,” he said.

“What I mean by that is you have to envision yourself being a great shooter if you want to be a shooter. You’re not gonna become a great shooter if you don’t think that you’re gonna become a great shooter, yourself. So, first and foremost, you have to have a vision of what kind of player and how good of a player you want to be.”

He then shared how it takes immense work ethic to succeed at this level. One needs to be smart and needs to work on their right skills to develop themselves into stars in the coming years. George advises them to take slow steps at the start of their career. “And then, you have to work towards that one thing at a time. Take one step at a time in making that a reality,” George said.

He also spoke about mindset being a very important factor of the sports and not many people have got the right mindset to succeed. He feels that kids these days are talking about being successful, being great but they don’t envision themselves enough which is a problem according to George. “I think that’s where kids and people in general get it mixed up,” George said.

“They say they want to be great, they say they want to be good, they say they want to be successful, but they don’t see themself being great, they don’t see themself being successful, they don’t see themself performing at a high level. You’ve got to envision yourself,” he added.

The Clippers star feels that these values and mindset has allowed him to play in the NBA for more than 13 years. “To this day, I think that’s why I am where I am, is because I saw this in myself,” George concluded.
