Paul Pierce wants people to be more understanding with the Ja Morant situation, opens up on getting death threats during his playing days

    March 24, 2023

Former Celtics legend Paul Pierce was one of the most prolific scorers of his time. He has retired some years ago but he follows the league very closely. He recently shared his story after seeing Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant going through a lot of public scrutiny.

Ja Morant was suspended for some games for flashing a gun during an Instagram live. He however has realized his mistake and is again back on court. But Pierce revealed that he used to carry a handgun aswell after he was stabbed brutally back in 2000.

He wants people to understand that there can be several reasons to carry a gun and if they don’t know their story they have no right to criticize the player. “I don’t care what y’all say about Ja,” Pierce tweeted. “I carried a gun after I was stabbed y’all don’t know what he going thru everyone got something to say until u really know what’s really going on in someone life when you are black and rich, you are a target. Period.”

In a recent interview, the hall of famer shared that he had applied for a gun and had a proper licence. However he admitted that he wasn’t flashing it. He was getting death threats and got stabbed 11 times in 2000.

“My license was to carry on me, but I wasn’t flashing it and doing all that,” Pierce said. “I was getting death threats before the case came up. One time I was sitting in a restaurant, and they came up and gave me the cordless phone from the restaurant. He was like, ‘Somebody’s calling for you.’ I was like, ‘What?’ It was a threat. That’s what I was dealing with,” Pierce revealed.

Pierce shifted his focus to basketball after his stabbing incident. However he also shared on having 24-hour police protection for a year as he was genuinely scared after the incident. The Truth shared that it was difficult to move on from that incident but he tried his best and gradually he moved on.

Despite the stabbing incident, Pierce played all 82 games in the 2000-01 season for the Boston Celtics. It was his third year in the league and he had already made a name for himself as a yong talent.

Pierce finished as a 10-time NBA All-Star and won the title in 2008 with Celtics. He was surely one of the best scorers during his era and rightly a Hall of famer.
