Ja Morant is making all the headlines and for all the wrong reasons. The Memphis Grizzlies star is in a big trouble as there are question marks over his NBA career. Morant has been involved in a lot of controversial acts which were recent brought to spotlight. He also flashed a gun on his Instgram live which forced NBA to investigate and take matter into their hands.
NBA Insider Shams Charania reported that the Grizzlies had a player-only meeting and senior player Steven Adams asked the players to show more discipline. While no name was revealed it is clear that the center was indicating their star point-guard.
“The NBA’s investigation is ongoing, and there’s a lot of questions that they need answered,” Charania said. “There was a players-only meeting recently. Where Steven Adams, their veteran center, he spoke out about how the team needs to show better discipline on the road, how they need to stay away from going out when they’re on the road,” Charania opened up on the Grizzlies meeting.
“Those in the room, when Steven Adams spoke out, they knew exactly who he was directing this to. It was no one other than Ja Morant. Clearly, Ja Morant still went out in the early hours of Saturday that video was posted with the gun,” Charania continued.
Morant has been entangled with his off-court controversies which include instances where he has beaten up a teenager and punched a mall employee which happened in off-season. The recent case was when he flashed a gun on his Instagram Live and since then his social media handles have bene deactivated. The NBA is currently investigating the matter as the team has already suspended the player indefinitely.
With everything that is happened with Morant, the Grizzlies will face the repercussions as their ongoing season is grave danger. It mentally affects a team when one of your teammate and star player is suspended for such acts.
While we know how big an asset he was for the Grizzlies in terms of carrying the ball from offense to defense, using his athleticism and panache to make moves to the basket. He is already a superstar in his young career and people expects big things from him already. But this instance will be a major roadblock in his career and now it puts a big question on the Griezzlies aswell who are second in the Western Conference.
The Grizzlies still have a very young and talented squad and if they play collectively they can salvage something from this season. They need to put the focus back on their gameplay rather than the off the field issues involving their star player.
