Thinking about superteams in the NBA, we can think of the Golden Warriors that recently ran riot in the NBA. It was a historic team to say the least as Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant paired up with the likes of Andre Iguodala and Draymond Green to win multiple NBA Championships.
The Warriors from attack to defence were simply sensational. But once the era ended things did not hold up for the Warriors in the post Kevin Durant era. The Golden State Warriors were coached by the Chicago Bulls legend Steve Kerr. They were fully stacked and were the force to be reckoned with during the 2015 to 2019 time period. The Warriors made the finals will relative ease and were one of the most consistent and all round teams in the entire NBA.
But things did come down for the Warriors after Durant left the franchise. Durantula move away to greener pastures by joining Brooklyn Nets and things came crashing down for the Dubs.
They struggled for the next two years and could not find any kind of form. Warriors talisman Stephen Curry also admitted that it was a very difficult period for him and also for the players associated with the team. Curry has been a star player for the Warriors for a long time. He is probably the greatest ever shooter in the NBA. However, he needed the support of Kevin Durant to win titles for the Warriors. Therefore when Durant left in 2019 to join the Nets, the Dubs were all set for a massive setback.
The events followed with several injury problems, injuries to ‘Splash Brothers’ meant that that the Warriors failed to reach the playoffs in consecutive years.
In a recent interview with GQ, 33-year-old revealed his days of struggles, “Well, as many good breaks as we got, we got kind of the same bad breaks,” said the 7-time All-star.”
“The injuries that took us to a pretty crazy free fall right before the pandemic. And it’s weird because if you look at it in those two years, it was tough to be patient and tough for me, just staying locked in and motivated. Therefore it is clear that Kevin Durant’s departure created a major ripple effect for the Warriors.
However, after all their struggle they have finally found form this season. They are again looking like an NBA Championship contender with a sensational record in the Western Conference.
