“There’s some light at the end of the tunnel,” Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns opens up on his injury and road to recovery

    March 22, 2023

Minnesota Timberwolves big man Karl-Anthony Towns has been out since he suffered a grade 3 right calf strain. He has been out of action since November 28 and revealed that it has been very hard for him to stay on the sidelines. Initially reports suggested that he would miss four to six weeks. But with time the injury was proven to be much more serious.

Towns recently spoke about his struggle in an interview with The Athletic. He highlighted the long gruelling rehab process which has been a major challenge. He also shared that he is nearing his return.

“I hated every moment of it,” Towns said. “I feel good there is a day (coming). There’s a time. I’ve been in the darkness of the tunnel and trying to figure out where I’m going. It’s good to know that there’s some light at the end of the tunnel.”

The Timberwolves big man is someone who always likes a contest and for him to remain out of action for so long while watching the others play must be very heartbreaking. “I’ve been itching to play. I’ve worked extremely hard to get to the moment to play. Setbacks happen. I couldn’t do it. I’ve wanted to play basketball so bad for so long,” Towns continued.

Towns understood that it was never a four or six weeks thing even when it was reported initially. He always knew that it was a major injury and will take time to heal. “It was never supposed to be a four to six-week thing. It was supposed to be a long time,” Towns said.

He opened up on how the calf was mostly torn and he immediately knew that it will take long time to heal. He shared that there’s never a timetable for these injuries as it depends on the body and it reacts. But it usually take a lot of time to heal and hence his rehab process on the sidelines will hopefully be fruitful as the NBA fans want to see him hit the court again.

“There was just never a real timetable. You Google it and you see 12 weeks. I knew it was going to be a road, and I was hoping I could beat that,” Towns continued.

The Timberwolves were expected big things this season when they went and got Rudy Gobert. It shook the entire trade window and fans were very much hyped to see how two big men play in the same roster. Also with that the rising stocks of Anthony Edwards did not go unnoticed.

But it has not worked out for the franchise as they are in the eighth in the Western Conference with a 36-37 record. But they are very close to 12th placed New orleans Pelicans and it is very tight around that position. So a couple of games here and there and Timberwolves drop off from the play-in spot. So they need Karl-Anthony Towns as early as possible.
