Los Angeles Clippers stunned the Golden State Warriors by 113-112 on Saturday to record a thrilling win. The Dubs dominated the first half and had a comfortable lead of 19 points before the third quarter. The Warriors had a convincing lead of 22 points at one point but they squandered it.
Paul George scored the winning three-pointer with only 9.2 seconds left as the Clippers got the much-needed win. Clippers head coach Ty Lue said it was a gutsy victory for them as they kept fighting till the final buzzer.
“This was a gutsy win for us,” Clippers coach Ty Lue said. “We needed to win like this just to keep fighting, keep scraping, keep competing and winning a big game like this.”
In fact, the Warriors were leading by 70-48 with 11:45 left in the third quarter but were outscored 65-42 in the remainder of the match.
James Harden, who scored 21 points and added nine assists, was delighted after the team’s nail-biting win and said they want to be consistent.
“Wow, 22,” he said when told of the second-half deficit. “… We don’t want to keep going up and down. We want to be consistent.
“I told [George] and [Leonard] before the game, ‘Let’s catch our rhythm. Let’s be good, like we’re going to be later in the season. Let’s start it now.'”
Paul George top-scored with 25 points for the Clippers and played a key role in the team’s win. Kawhi Leonard was also glad with the confidence booster win.
“It’s big,” Leonard said of the victory. “We’ve been trying to be consistent. We are getting better, but very slow. … You know, how things been going, it feels great to pull out a win.”
Golden State Warriors will next take on Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night.
