Timberwolves rookie Anthony Edwards awestruck by Steph Curry’s match winning performance

    January 28, 2021

After two consecutive losses, the Golden State Warriors finally came back to winning ways again with a win over Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday. It was a dominating win for the Warriors who are currently in the eighth position in the Western conference.

After back to back losses, coach Steve Kerr made a big change in the starting lineup as he brought in centre Kevon Looney replacing rookie centre James Wiseman. While a lot of people are giving credit to Kerr for his tactical brain, Timberwolves rookie Anthony Edwards feels it was mostly down to Steph Curry’s brilliance that the Warriors dominated the Timberwolves.

Edwards for the first time faced the 2 time NBA MVP in a match and it was a memorable one as Curry put on a show registering 36 points. Edwards, just like Curry, is not exceptionally tall in basketballing standards and therefore the youngster has always admired the Warriors’ point guard.

“I’ve been watching him on TV for a minute and it ain’t fake,” Edwards hailed Curry. “It ain’t fake news, it’s real. He’ll just take on, dribble and pull up from deep and shoot like it’s nothing. I was watching him warm-up and was like, ‘That’s crazy.’”

With Klay Thompson out for the season, all the load of leading the Warriors have fallen on his shoulders and he has taken that up with poise. This was Curry’s seventh thirty plus game this season and he came up with an astonishing statistic of scoring seven out of the twelve three pointers attempted to close out the game against Minnesota. Edwards was simply star struck with his performance at the end of the game and felt that the 2-time NBA MVP was the reason for their defeat.

“We brought it down, came back and fought back, and then he just like extended the game, made it even harder,” the 19-year-old added.

The Warriors will gear up to face the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Chase Center for their back to back fixtures. Curry will look to make it two in two for while it will be a great opportunity for Edwards to shine in front of his idol.
