The Golden State Warriors have been undoubtedly a great team as they have reached their sixth finals in eight years. They will be up against the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals as star player Draymond Green highlights a deciding factor for the Dubs. He points out the rise of veteran center Kevon Looney as the big man went from strength to strength to bring out the best in himself and help the Warriors with more dynamism in the offense and defence.
Looney was sensational against the Dallas Mavericks in the Conference FInals as he averaged 10.6 points, 10.6 rebounds and shot 70.6% from the field. This statline proves his growth as a player which has helped the Warriors be a more formidable unit as he allows them the physicality that they desperately need.
In an interview with Colin Cowherd, Draymond Green shared the highlights from Kevon Looney’s fantastic season till now. And how important he has been for the Warriors. He also shared how people compared him with Kevin Durant just because he ws tall and lanky with good ball control.
“What he’s done in these playoffs – and really all year, but especially these playoffs, everybody’s watching – we know what he’s done. And what he’s done is totally reinvented himself from the player that he was coming out of high school. Now, when Kevon Looney was coming out of high school, people were comparing him with Kevin Durant, “ Draymond Green stated.
Draymond shared how people react to young tall players with good handles and compare with Kevin Durant. He feels that it is the worst thing that he has heard in the sport. He added, “Now, I always get mad when people just compare tall skinny guys to Kevin Durant, because that’s what everyone wants to do. They look at a physique. They say, ‘Oh, man, that guy’s tall and skinny; he can handle the ball – boom – that’s Kevin Durant,’ and I think it is the absolute worst thing that people can do in basketball.”
There is no doubt that Looney has reinvented himself this season and has developed as a unique and very important part of the Warriors jigsaw puzzle. Looney has already broken his career starts record this season and after his couple of Championships with the Dubs he is now aiming for his third this year.
