The Brooklyn Nets have had a very below par start to the new NBA season as they have lost out six out of the eight games and shockingly as a repercussion they have sacked Steve Nash citing issues of underperformance. Brooklyn Nets general manager Sean Marks felt Nash had enough time after last season’s disappointment to rectify that but a slow start to the new season saw him get axed as Marks believes that the team has the quality to contend for the title this season and hence when they kept on losing Marks decided to pull the plug.
The Brooklyn Nets have had several issues over the last couple of seasons with Kyrie Irving having his set of issues. Then Kevin Durant’s trade request in the summer shocked everyone. Lastly Ben Simmons has also had his share of issues and even after making his debut for the Nets, the Australian guard has struggled to make the impact that he had during his Sixers’ days.
After Nash’s dismissal, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr highlighted how Steve Nash is a good coach and he believes that the former Phoenix Suns guard turned coach has everything needed to succeed as a top coach. “Steve Nash is a good friend of mine, so more than anything I feel for Steve,” Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “I think he has all the qualities to be a brilliant coach. Brilliant. He has all the qualities to be a brilliant coach.”
Steve Kerr has been one of the best in the business over the last decade as he has guided the Warriors to four NBA Championships. So when Kerr praises someone he genuinely means it for them. The former Chicago Bulls player shared how the coaches are in control of the players, front office and also the owners and their job is least secured. So he wants this Nash dismissal incident to be a reminder to all the coaches regarding job security.
“It’s a good reminder to me, and I think all coaches, that we are at the whim of players, front offices, ownership – you really need a solid situation in which to thrive as a coach in this league. (Miami Heat coach) Erik (Spoelstra’s) got one here. I’ve got one in Golden State. We’re really lucky,” Kerr added.
The former Bulls star then shared some spicy takes as he highlighted how Eric Spoelstra has also got a great atmosphere to thrive as a coach just like him but if they are placed in a situation like Brooklyn Nets, he feels both of them won’t do much better than Steve Nash with so many clashing personalities.Kerr shows his support towards Nash and once again reiterated that the former Nets coach can be great at his job if he decides to come to coaching again.
“You throw either one of us in that situation, we wouldn’t have done any better than Steve. And that’s the truth. So, as a really good friend of mine, I feel bad for Steve. But I also know if he ever wants to get back in this thing, he can be great,” Kerr concluded.
As per several reports, suspended Celtics head coach Ime Udoka who guided them to the NBA Finals in his debut season is a front runner to become the next head coach of Brooklyn Nets. Reports also suggest that the Celtics will allow him to walk if he takes a call on his future.
