Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr admitted they haven’t found the grit, which every good team needs in the ongoing NBA season. The Dubs slipped to their third consecutive loss after a 132-122 defeat against Dallas Mavericks on Saturday night.
Before their 120-114 loss against Denver Nuggets on Christmas Day, the Warriors had won five matches in a row.
Meanwhile, Steph Curry once again starred for the Warriors as he top-scored with 25 but his efforts were topped by Mavericks’ talisman Luka Doncic, who added 39 points.
The Warriors currently have a 15-17 record in the ongoing season and they are in 11th place in the Western Conference standings.
“We haven’t found that grit that every good team needs, where you pull together and you just play for the group,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “We are not there yet. And that’s a problem. We have great guys, but until every team connects in a way that is solely dedicated to winning each game, then we are going to be stuck in this place.”
Curry, on the other hand, admitted they haven’t been at their best in the ongoing season as they haven’t come up with a collective show. Curry said they have experimented enough to find the right balance but they are yet to find the right answers.
“We’ve experimented a lot, some for forced reasons, some for us searching for an identity,” Curry said. “We haven’t it collectively. It’s frustrating, for sure, 32 games in. Any team that is a seriously competitive contender, a good team, usually can answer that question. We have to get to that point before it’s too late.
Kerr also showered praise on Luka Doncic for a brilliant game. This was the 23rd time when Doncic scored more than 30 points in the ongoing season, matching Michael Jordan record of 1986-87 season (first 30 games of the year).
“We tried to mix it up on him,” Kerr said. “We singled-covered him, we switched, we hit him. We tried a lot of different things but he is a brilliant player, and had a phenomenal game … we weren’t communicating. We had some good stretches when we were getting stops … and then our communication broke down.”
Golden State Warriors will look to return to winning ways in their next match against Orlando Magic on Tuesday.
