Golden State Warriors are on the cusp of the NBA Championship. The Dubs had taken a 3-2 lead after Game 5 of the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics on Monday night after beating them by 104-94. Like many other occasions, they are now one step away from glory.
However, the team is not losing sight of what they are yet to achieve and they aren’t yet celebrating what they haven’t won. There is still one match to be won and Klay Thompson said that they will be doing themselves a disservice if they think about things that don’t even exist yet.
So the goal of the Dubs is clear – once again bring their best to the court and the result should take care of itself.
“You do yourself a disservice if you think about things that don’t even exist yet,” Klay Thompson said.
Thompson believes Boston Celtics are going to play with a bit of desperation as it will be a must-win game for them.
“We know [the Celtics are] going to play with a sense of desperation,” Thompson said. “So for us to match that or exceed that, it’s going to take the most effort we’ve had to give all year.”
On the other hand, Steph Curry feels it is imperative for his team to understand the changes they will have to make in Game 6 after winning Game 5.
“You just understand what the nerves are like,” Curry said. “We understand the specifics of how we need to approach the game from a physicality perspective, our game plan adjustments from Game 5 to Game 6, understanding what the building is going to feel like, that energy, being prepared for it.”
“At the end of the day, once you get out there, you just have to be in the moment,” Curry said. “You got to be present as much as possible, not worry about the consequences of a win or a loss. The only opportunity you have is that 48 minutes. The more you can trick your mind into being in the moment and staying there, that’s the best advice I can give anybody in that situation because it’s going to be the hardest game you probably ever played in your career because of what the stakes are.”
Curry had an off day at work as he had scored only 16 points in Game 5, including no three-pointers and he will be determined to turn the tables on Thursday night for GSW.
