Former WBO, WBA, and IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has signed a new deal with DAZN, ending his old deal with Sky Sports, which he has had since he turned pro. According to reports, the new deal is worth $100 million a year, but there is no idea how many years the deal could last. The terms of the deal would also see Joshua become a shareholder, special advisor, joining the strategic advisory board, and a brand ambassador for DAZN.
The new deal means only DAZN would have the broadcast rights to Joshua’s future fights. So they would only be aired on DAZN’s streaming channel.
Speaking about the new deal, Joshua said that he was “entering a new phase in my career with a new training environment, new coaches, and now a new broadcaster.” This is coming as Joshua has changed his coach and training location ahead of his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk, a fight that has not been confirmed yet, but would stream on DAZN.
He continued: “I’ve been working with DAZN and following its progress for a long time. We have enjoyed a really successful partnership in the US for many years, and I know the team and understand the passion and drive of the business.
“DAZN’s vision and passion to innovate is what attracted me to the partnership. They are leading the digital landscape in sport and the future of sports broadcasting.”
Joshua would be following the footsteps of his promoter, Eddie Hearn, who signed a billion-dollar deal with DAZN last year. Speaking on Joshua’s recent move, Hearn said, “We have been successfully working in partnership with DAZN for many years now, and this new announcement with Anthony Joshua emphasises why they continue to set the standard for the future of sports broadcasting.”
