    Evander Holyfield vs Mike Tyson

    Holyfield Wants Fixture With Tyson

    May 12, 2020

Legendary boxer, Evander Holyfield has said that he could be interested in a trilogy fight with Mike Tyson.

The two had met two times in the 90s and on both occasions, Holyfield was victorious. Now, although the two of them are way past their professional years, Holyfield has hinted that he would be up for a fight if things were set.

Tyson, 53 years, released a 5 seconds video some weeks back on Instagram which showed him very much in his boxing spirit. He fired a series of rapid blows with that much passion that fans were familiar with.

The video created a lot of reactions with many people surprised he still had it together at that age. Tyson later said that he is up for exhibition matches for charity and Holyfield has said that he is interested – but he is not going to ask Tyson.

The first time Tyson and Holyfield met in 1996, Holyfield managed to win the fight in the 11th round, a very surprising feat. Their next meeting in 1997 was one of the most controversial fights ever after Tyson bit off the Holyfield’s right ear, resulting in his disqualification and Holyfield being declared the winner of the match. So it is obvious they are not exactly best friends, hence Holyfield’s unwillingness to approach Tyson directly.

Holyfield has not fought since 2011 but he hinted that he’s in good shape as well. He said, “The fighters that take care of themselves are the ones that last.”

He also makes it clear that age would not be a problem if the fixture were to take place. But as much as he is looking forward to the possibility of a trilogy, he reveals, “I don’t want them to think this is a life or death situation, you know?”

Based on career records, Tyson is the better man, with stats of 50-6, 44 KOs, while Holyfield has 44-10-2, 29 KOs, despite the latter fighting longer. Tyson was also the youngest to win the heavyweight title at age 20 and Holyfield admits that Tyson’s earlier achievements were sort of an inspiration to him.

Still, Holyfield has made it clear that he would not be the one to ask for the fight so, somehow, we just have to wait for it to happen. But it would be a real delight to see these two legends in the ring one more time.
