British professional boxer Anthony Joshua has revealed plans to make improvements on his ring walk ahead of his rematch against Andy Ruiz Jr.
The Mexican-American sent the entire boxing world into shock by defeating Joshua to win the WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO heavyweight titles. Everyone expected the game to be a stroll in the park for the Brit, but he came up against a brick wall on the night of the fight.
That win meant so much for the Mexican heritage as they can now finally boast of a world heavyweight champion in Ruiz Jr.
Boxing fans always look forward to seeing their favourite boxer perform their ring walk – the flair, panache, elegance, and style is just priceless. Just like how Ronaldo has his famous goal celebration dubbed “Siii” by his stans, Boxers also have something called the ring walk just for some show up before the main event.
Anthony Joshua is well-known for his calm approach on fight nights, but he came in for the stick for his calm demeanour during his ring-walk at Madison Square Garden before his disappointing loss to his Mexican counterpart.
Instead of going the rebellious route as many others would, Joshua has conceded to the media that he was aware of his off-attitude. To the relief of many fans all over the world, he promised to make changes to his approach.
The 29-year-old has promised to be more switched on for his rematch with Andy Ruiz Jr., as he cannot afford a repeat of the June 1st tragic loss.
Speaking on Eddie Hearn’s BBC podcast concerning his entrance, Joshua said, “I need to start taking this approach to my fights where I’m a bit livelier.”
“I know I’m capable of it. There is too much at stake. If I go in there where I’m switched on, a time like the Ruiz fight where I am so relaxed, that might be the difference”.
Joshua’s defeat to Ruiz Jr will go down in history as one of the sport’s greatest upsets, considering the former was an undefeated unified WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight champion at the time.
There will be a rematch between both rivals come December, where these two professionals will go toe-to-toe. Anthony Joshua will have only one thing in mind, set the record straight again.
Anthony Joshua is favoured at 1.29 to gain victory, while Andy Ruiz Jr is fancied at 3.40. An unlikely draw is still available at 26.00
