Caleb Plant has, once again, demonstrated how much of a formidable fighter he is after defeating Caleb Truax in a bout of 12 rounds. The victory improved his fighting record to 21-0 as he retained his IBF super-middleweight belt. Plant threw and landed more punches than his opponent and at the end of the day, he was able to earn the unanimous decision of the judges; 120-108, 120-108, and 120-108.
From the very first round, Plant was determined to do damages with his jabs, which he landed without pity. He managed to snap Traux’s head back with a jab in the positing seconds of the second round and knocked him off balance with a left hook as the round came to a close. The remaining rounds were not any better for Truax as Plant was able to dominate easily with his jabs.
It was in the eighth round that Truax did something quite impressive as he sent a right hand flying towards Plant. The shot was hard but Plant took it well as he was backed against the ropes. Truax was not about to take any chances as he followed with another right and a final one just before the round ended.
Plant was able to regain control of the fight in the ninth round as he sent a right hand that stunned Truax. But Truax was able to repay the favour with a right of his own. The two continued trading shots in the tenth round and by the eleventh, it was clear that Truax had run out of options and was going to lose the fight. Plant used the twelfth round to deal some heavy blows before the match came to an end.
Plant’s unbeaten record has not been tainted and he has now added Truax, who had not fought since January last year, to the list of fighters he has defeated. Speaking after the match, Plant revealed that he had broken his left hand during the fight and that may have been the reason why he was unable to finish off Truax with a knockout during the fight. But he stated that he was very happy with the performance he put up.
Plant’s next challenge would be to face Canelo Alvarez for a possible unification fight sometime in September. Before then, Alvarez would have to regain his title from a mandatory WBC challenger and win the WBO belt from the current champion.
