Wilder Reveals He Has Just Three Years Left In Boxing

    October 7, 2022

Former WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder, has said that he is time in boxing is running out, explaining that he has host three years left before he bows out of the sport for good.

Wilder has not fought since he lost to Tyson Fury in their trilogy fight last year. But he would step into the ring next weekend as he faces Robert Helenius. The fight is expected to be one o the last few fights we would see Wilder in.

The loss to Fury on two occasions put a dent to Wilder’s record, as he was unbeaten before then. Before losing the title to Fury, Wilder was the longest reigning WBC heavyweight champion. Although it is almost impossible that he would ever be at the top of the conversation again, no one would try to count Wilder out on any level.

Speaking recently with Sky Sports, the American explained that he would be continuing from where he stopped as he has bout three years or less before he officially retired.

He said: “I’ve tried to fight nothing but the best. I’m picking up where I left off at because I only have three more years left, and once that’s over, I’m done. I have three years or less. That could be nine fights, or it could be six fights that I’m going to give, and after that, I’m done.”

He further stated that his accomplishments would always speak for him, regardless of what people say about him: “No matter what people say, good or bad, my accomplishments will never be forgotten. I’ll always be here. I’m really motivating and inspiring people all over the world.”

On facing his next opponent, he said: “I’m looking forward to fighting my old sparring partner Robert Helenius, and it’s going to be a great one. I know he’s got a fighter’s heart and mentality, as well as I have a fighter’s heart and mentality. So it’s set up to be a fantastic fight. So may the best man win.”
