Fresh off a campaign in which Emiliano Buendia led Norwich City to the likes of top-tier promotion, the Argentine midfielder seems to have set his sights on Aston Villa.
The newly-promoted Norwich City had an initial price tag of £33 million, but all reports — at the time of publication — indicate this could be 40+ with bonus and add-ons.
There were only two clubs in the race to add the midfielders; Aston Villa outbid Arsenal and agreed to a club record £33 million fee to sign Buendia away from Norwich City.
Buendia was named player of the season in 2020-2021 in the Championship.
He not only recorded 16 assists, but also added 15 goals on his own — having created more scoring chances than any other player in his division.
The Argentine international is now getting ready for Copa America, but did sit out the friendly last Friday vs Chile.
Buendia originally joined Norwich a few years back in 2018 from Getafe for a mere £1 million fee. That transfer/move took place on June 18.
Since then, he has scored 24 goals and added 42 assists in his three-year long stint at Carrow Road.
Buendia is considered one of the most creative players in all of England, to be honest. He scores at a respectable rate, gets others involved early and often and will make some major production — on and off the field — wherever he ends up next.
All in all, though, let’s not forget this is a business. And Buendia’s agent also represents Emi Martinez, a close friend and confidant. A source close to Buendia said the decision to join Villa is because his team are “working on his best future”.
For now, looks like the future will now kick into high gear at Villa Park.
