The 90th season of the La Liga has kicked off in earnest, with each team playing at least 3 rounds of games already. Last season saw Real Madrid snatch the La Liga crown from Barcelona after the restart, while Sevilla and Atlético Madrid qualified for the UEFA Champions League. While Villarreal, Real Sociedad, and Granada booked their spots in the 2020/21 Europa League. Also, Leganes, Mallorca, and Espanyol were relegated to the Segunda Division.
The 2020/21 edition has seen the likes of Elche, SD Huesca, and CF Cadiz gain promotion. As the season continues, here are our predictions for the 2020/21 La Liga table.
It’s hard to see any La Liga team other than Real Madrid, Barcelona, or Atlético Madrid challenge for the La Liga crown. In fact, it was 16 years ago that another team (Valencia/ outside the top 3 won the Spanish League title. However, Julen Lopetegui’s men looked poised to give both Barcelona and Madrid a run for their money. We are not saying they’ll win the La Liga, but they will be genuine title contenders this season.
Lionel Messi has won the Pichichi Trophy for the last three seasons, that’s since the 2016/17 edition. However, we believe that this year another player might outscore the mercurial Argentinian star. Players like Gerard Moreno, Maxi Gomez, Karim Benzema, and Luuk de Jong are likely favourites to win the golden boot.
The Basque club gained promotion to the top tier of Spanish football for the first time in 2014, and have enjoyed incredible moments since then. They have managed to stay up for a while, but this season they have experienced a huge dip in form.
The Andalusia-based football club has started life in the La Liga impressively. They have won twice, lost twice, and drew once in 5 La Liga matches so far. They have a compact defense and have scored in all the games they have played in—Cadiz boost of a decent attack led by former Man City striker, Alvaro Negredo.
