Ralf Rangnick was given the reins of Manchester United after Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer was sacked by the management in the previous season. Rangnick joined the Red Devils as an interim head coach when the club was in a disarray.
Things were going south for Manchester United and the German had his work cut out in getting the best out of his players. Rangnick revealed that it took him only two weeks to know where the team was veering off the track.
However, Rangnick could not do much to change Manchester United’s fortune as the club ended the season in the sixth place in the standings. The Old Trafford-based club could only manage 58 points in the league, which is their worst ever points tally in English Premier League history.
Speaking to Austrian daily Der Standard, Rangnick said: “As a coach or sports director, it’s about being able to develop things and minimising the chance factor as much as possible. That you develop a team in a direction where you use game control and a certain type of football to create significantly more chances than you allow the opponent to have.”
He continued: “It would not have taken Manchester United six months to do that. After just two weeks it was clear to me where the problems were and what would have to be done to fix them – but the question is whether you have the option of changing these things.”
In fact, Ralf Rangnick was expected to stay at Manchester United in an advisory role but the club decided not to finalize the deal. Rangnick is currently serving as head coach of Austria while Erik Ten Hag is the new gaffer for Manchester United for the ongoing 2022-23 season.
Manchester United have won two and lost as many out of the four matches they have played so far in the season. Erik Ten Hag’s men will next face Leicester City on Thursday.
