Juventus defender Alex Sandro has compared their 2-1 loss against Porto at the Estadio do Dragao in the UEFA Champions League last 16 clash to the 1-0 loss suffered in the hands of Napoli last weekend.
According to him, the similarities were that the Old Lady started the games poorly but ended up playing well, without getting any result.
The Old Lady had last weekend suffered a 1-0 defeat courtesy of Lorenzo Insigne’s spot-kick after Giorgio Chiellini’s caught the face of a Napoli’s defender, Amir Rrahmani.
The Ecuadorian is therefore urging his team to make a strong start in their next games.
On Wednesday night, the Bianconeri had gifted a goal in the opening 63 seconds from Rodrigo Bentancur’s awful back-pass. They then conceded another just 19 seconds after the restart.
Federico Chiesa reduced the deficit late in the second half. And that gives some hope they can turn this around in the second leg on March 9. With this result, Juve only needs to score one unreplied goal to proceed to the next round.
While admitting that the first half was terrible, Sandro said the second was better, and the team is well aware that they must start the second leg the way it ended the first.
Speaking with Sky Sport Italia, the defender noted that two big mistakes on two incidents cost them the game as the hosts took advantage of them to score two goals.
So, all the team needed to do at the Allianz Stadium, according to him, is full concentration during the next leg.
The game has been tagged as Juve’s worst season performance as it looked like another toothless attacking performance.
Meanwhile, the coach, Andrea Pirlo, has insistent that they won’t change their style despite costly mistakes against the Portuguese giants.
The second leg of the tie will hold in Turin on March 9.
