Alphonso Davies has claimed that he is only getting started at Bayern Munich as he wishes to win more accolades with the Germain giants. Despite being such a crucial player at the Allianz Arena, the Canadian still believes that he is living his dream.
The 20-year-old youngster has risen through during the Hansi Flick era and was pivotal in Bayern Munich’s historic treble a couple of seasons ago. Since joining Bayern from Major League Soccer outfit Vancouver Whitecaps in 2018, he has gone on to become one of the best young talents in European football.
Davies is aware that he needs to maintain his high standards despite bagging the Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League so early in his career in Bavaria. He is eager to win more accolades with the German giants in the years to come.
Davies told CNN that he is looking to replicate his form in the 2020 season when they won the treble and added six trophies in total. “We know it’s not going to be easy. It’s going to be really difficult. But I feel like with the team, we can do it again.
“My time is not done with Bayern. I still have a lot more years there and a lot more trophies to win, so I’m excited for the future.”
Bayern were quick to notice his potential therefore they broke the MLS record fee to bring the youngster to Bavaria from Vancouver. He was transformed from an attacking role to a solid left back who played a huge role in Flick’s system.
After a tough childhood in Ghana, Davies is now playing for a top European club and sometimes he pinches himself to believe that all of this is not a dream.
Davies adds how playing for Bayern has been a dream for him. He said, “Words can’t really explain it.
“In my mind, I was thinking there’s no way these are the real people. And then [Arjen] Robben walks in the room, and it’s a real guy, it’s not a cartoon. [I] shook his hand and he introduced himself, very polite, humble guy, it was amazing.
“Everything I’ve accomplished, it’s been amazing. When I got my opportunity, I told myself, ‘Take your opportunity,’ and I took it.”
