Barcelona got their UEFA Champions League season back on track with a 1-0 victory against Ukrainian side Dynamo Kiev.
Barca needed a win to move into second place and boost their chances of a knockout place knowing fully well that Benfica visits Bayern Munich in Germany.
A Loss for the Portuguese side will be enough to see Barcelona move into second place especially with a win in Kiev.
Ansu Fati shot Barcelona into the lead and what proved to the winning goal with 20 minutes left to play.
The win is the team’s second in the UEFA Champions League this season with both coming against the same opponents.
It is also the first win for Sergi Barjuan who took charge of Barcelona on an interim basis last week after the sacking of Ronald Koeman.
Barjuan made a false start at the weekend against Alaves in the La Liga after the team played a 1-1 draw.
Meanwhile, with Benfica losing 5-2 to Bayern in Germany, Barcelona’s win puts them in second with 6 points from 4 games while Benfica drops into third position.
Barcelona’s attention now shift to the La Liga where they will face Celta Vigo and Espanyol before their next UEFA Champions League game against Benfica at the Camp Nou.
Barcelona lost the first leg 3-0 in Portugal.
Meanwhile, Etienne Capou and Arnaut Danjuma both scored as Villarreal won 2-0 against Young Boys.
While the Yellow Submarines are in second place behind Manchester United, they have the same seven points with the Red Devils.
Sevilla were not fortunate to get similar result as they lost to French Champions Lille 2-1.
Despite going in front as early as the 16th minute through Lucas Ocampos, Lille clawed their way back through Canadian forward Jonathan David before half time and a winner from Jonathan Ikonne nine minutes into the second half.
The loss drops Sevilla to the bottom of the log with three points.
