Arsenal Completes Europa League Group Stage with 100% Record

    December 11, 2020

Arsenal on Thursday beat Dundalk FC in Ireland 4-2 to complete their UEFA Europa League group stage with a 100% win record.

The Gunners were grouped alongside the Irish side, Norwegians Molde, and Austrian side Rapid Vienna.

Despite their poor League form, Mikel Arteta’s side won all six group stage matches played in the competition.

Eddie Nketiah and Egyptian Midfielder Mohammed Elneny scored within 6 minutes in the 12th and 18th minute before the hosts pulled one back through Jordan Flores in the 22nd minute.

Joe Willock and Folarin Balogun also added two more goals in the second half before Sean Hoare made the scoreline respectable to the home team.

Despite drawing 2-2 with Rapid Vienna in Austria, Molde moved into the round of 32 in second place with 10 points.

The Austrians finished third with 8 points while Dundalk failed to record a single point, sitting bottom of the log.

With the round 32 fixtures draw to be made next week, the Gunners will now shift focus to the English Premier League, where they will be playing three matches in the space of nine days.

The Emirates Stadium side will welcome Burnley and Southampton on the 13th and 16th of December, respectively, before traveling to Goodison Park to face Everton on the 19th.

Fellow English Premier League side, Manchester United dropped into the Europa League from the UEFA Champions League after losing 3-2 to RB Leipzig in Germany.

Tottenham Hotspur also beat Royal Antwerp on Thursday at the White Hart Lane Stadium. Jose Mourinho’s men had lost the first leg 1-0 in Belgium.

Leicester City also beat Greek side AEK Athens at the King Power Stadium to join Spurs and Arsenal in the round of 32.
