Arsenal’s biggest signing in the transfer window was roping in former Manchester City Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian will now lead the attack and help Mikel Arteta achieve the style of play that he has envisioned for the upcoming season. Jesus has been a very likeable character even during his time at Manchester City. His move from City to Arsenal has been praised by several experts and former players. Even the fans have high expectations from the Brazilian striker.
However recently during a pre season game he got into a spat with Everton defender Yerry Mina. The Colombian defender gestured angrily towards him and then said a few words. After the match, Gabriel Jesus opened up on his altercation with Mina and happened exactly on the field. He told TNT Sports about the incident, “You know what, I have played with Mina before in Palmeiras. We were so close to each other. Then, after, I don’t know why he started to attack me to do something like this [pointing] on my chest and then talking s***.”
“I don’t know why. I don’t know the reason for him to do this. I am not a kid any more and I [went] straight to him as well. After, we [carried] on the game and that’s all,” Jesus concluded.
The Brazilian has been in fantastic form for the Gunners in preseason having scored three goals in two matches against Nuremberg and Everton earlier this month.
Jesus was a very dependable man for Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. Although he was never trusted enough by the Spaniard to succeed Sergio Aguero, he was used in more of a flexible role where he was once used as a striker and sometimes on the flanks. It was his versatility and ability to adapt to different situations that made him a very useful squad player for the Cityzens.
But with Erling Haaland arrival, Jesus felt that he needed a move on and hence he joined Arsenal whom desperately needed someone after the departure of Alexandre Lacazette. So Jesus’ arrival was a huge thing for them and they will hope that the 25-year-old shines the brightest and takes Arsenal back to the Champions League which they missed last season only by a whisker.
When asked about Jesus’ decision to join Arsenal he pointed out how he likes challenges and he is not here to mess around for a year or two, he wanted a long term commitment, something that he got at the Emirates. “I always like projects in my life, I like to do things not only thinking about today, but thinking about the long term. I came here not to stay one or two seasons, but to stay five. So that’s my thought.”
Arsenal will start their new Premier League campaign with a game against Crystal Palace on August 5. However it will be interesting to see how they perform in friendlies against Chelsea and Sevilla before the start of the new season.
