Arsenal showed its strength and capacity in the Premier League titles with its outstanding result against Sheffield United on Monday at Brammal Lane. Mikel Arteta’s side needed to win the game to stay in proximity to the duo of Liverpool and Manchester City, who are first and second, respectively, on the Premier League log.
While Liverpool needed a late goal from Darwin Nunez against Nottingham Forest on Saturday to secure victory, Manchester City came from behind to beat Manchester United 3-1 to throw the title race open.
Those results meant that Arsenal needed to win their game against Sheffield United on Monday, but barely 20 minutes into the fixture, a result was already confirmed for the Gunners as the winners of all three points on the night.
Mikel Arteta’s men went into a three-goal lead just 15 minutes into the fixture after Martin Odegaard opened this current five minutes in before another goal in the 13th minute as well as the 15th minute through an own goal from Bogle and Gabriel Martinelli, respectively.
Kai Havertz and Declan Rice added two more in an overwhelming first half for the hosts, and it was not surprising to see the home stands empty before halftime.
One more goal in the second half from Ben White meant that Arsenal had six different scorers on the night, but it wasn’t that perfect, with the visitors seeing Martinelli injured in the second half.
Arsenal is now two points away from table-topping Liverpool and one point from Manchester City in second place. Arsenal’s next game will be a home game against Brentford on Saturday before facing FC Porto at Emirates Stadium in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 encounters for a change in the quarter-final. Arsenal lost the first leg 1-0 in Portugal.
