Atlético Madrid got a good grip on their La Liga title challenge with a 4-2 victory over Cadiz on Sunday to move ten points clear of their closest challengers, Real Madrid.
Diego Simeone’s men took the lead through Luis Suarez in the 28 minutes of the game before Alvaro Negredo equalized for the hosts in the 35th minute.
Saul Niguez restored Atletico’s lead a minute before halftime, and Suarez made it 3-1 five minutes after the break with a penalty.
Negredo made it level once again in the 71st minute before Koke won the game for Atletico with his goal.
The win is Simeone side’s ninth win in ten games in all competition, and the team hasn’t lost in the La Liga since the 2-0 loss to Real Madrid in December.
However, Barcelona moved into second place with a 2-1 win over Atletico Bilbao at the Camp Nou.
Lionel Messi scored his 650th Barcelona goal on the 20th minute, but Jordi Alba’s own-goal four minutes after the break leveled the score.
French striker Antoine Griezmann scored the winning goal with 16 minutes left in the game as Barcelona moved into second with 40 points but with better goals’ difference than Zinedine Zidane’s men.
Real Madrid had lost 2-1 to Levante on Saturday, Eder Militao got recorded within the first ten minutes of the game.
Marco Asensio gave the hosts the lead in the 13th minute of the game before Jose Morales equalized in the 32nd minute.
Roger Marti should have made it 3-1 in the 64th minute when Levante was given a penalty, but the 30-year-old missed the spot-kick.
He atoned for the miss fourteen minutes later to secure the victory, stretching the team’s unbeaten run to seven games unbeaten.
Real Madrid is now third on the table, but lead Barcelona on head-to-head.
