Spanish capital club side Atletico Madrid hoping to get back to winning ways when they face Villarreal in their next Spanish la Liga game this weekend.
Atletico sits in the sixth position, and the La Liga log with 6 points away from the top and number one team on the log FC Barcelona as well as City rivals or Real Madrid who are just separated from the Catalonia club on goals of difference to bounce back in the clash against Villarreal.
In recent years, Atletico has grown to become a third force behind the two traditional clubs in the Spanish La Liga FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Diego Simeone’s men won La Liga title and also competed in the UEFA Champions League final as well as winning the Europa League all in the decade to register themselves as a big club along with the two Spanish giants.
However, the tag of being a big club and the third face in Spain is under threat did this season for Atletico who have so far been on a poor run of the form must address the unencouraging situation against Villarreal side who have not won in their last five games.
For Atletico Madrid, they have only just one win in their last seven games in all competitions despite the fact that they started the season with three wins in their first three games.
In seven years under the tutelage of Diego Simeone, Atletico has ended up in the top three positions every single time.
.
However, if they want such statistics to continue, they have to get a result against Villarreal in a match that was supposed to be played in Miami had legal proceedings on the issue going the way of La Liga.
Unfortunately for Atletico both Barcelona and Real Madrid lead at the top with six points and still have a game in hand, the rescheduled El Clasico which will be played next weekend.
Both teams will face weaker oppositions this weekend and are on a good run of form with Madrid are yet to lose in eight games and face relegation strugglers Espanyol while Barcelona will face a Real Mallorca in a game which they’re expected to get their fourth consecutive wins.
Last weekend, Athletic lost at home at the Wanda Metropolitano to FC Barcelona via a Lionel Messi’s spectacular goal, which suggests that Atletico may not be in contention for the Spanish La Liga title this season.
For Villarreal, although they are 13th on the log, the yellow submarines have the best attack just behind Barca and Real Madrid which suggests that as Diego Simeone will have his defensive work cut out on Friday even though Villarreal also poor defensively with the 5th worst defence in the La Liga this season.
Atletico Madrid is set at 2.30 to win the game, while Villareal is pegged at 3.44
