Atletico Madrid welcome Man City in must-win Champions League clash

    April 12, 2022

On Wednesday evening, Atletico Madrid will hope for a better result when they face Manchester City in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League Quarterfinals at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Atletico Madrid lost the first leg 1-0 after holding Manchester City for a long period of the game. Diego Simeone had nothing but praises for the City side after their 1-0 win in the first leg, singling out England midfielder Phil Foden for his performance.

“I must admit we thought Foden would start. I’d also confess that it’s enjoyable to see how City plays. The patience they have. But we were both seeking the same thing, winning. They might be the best side in the world. We’ll change how we play a little in the second half of this tie, but it’s all the same to them – City will play the same way.” Simeone said.

Foden scored in the middle of the second half of the game last week, and the game is still balanced for Atletico to get something out of the tie. Unfortunately, the team lost its last La Liga game at the weekend to Real Mallorca.

Meanwhile, Manchester City was held to a 2-2 draw by Liverpool in the race for the Premier League title as both sides settled for the share of the spoils.

Also, Villarreal will hope to complete the job they started in the first leg in Spain when they got a 1-0 win over Bayern Munich at the La Ceramica.

Arnaut Danjuma got the game’s only goal; although he could have gotten two, it was chalked off by the VAR.

The Yellow Submarines outplayed the German giants in the first leg but were unable to add more goals. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich won their last Bundesliga game against Augsburg at the weekend.

Liverpool will also face Benfica at Anfield after getting a 3-1 victory in Portugal last week.
