La Liga giants Barcelona are contemplating a number of salary cuts to both players and coaching staff due to the growing impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Spanish reigning champions have suspended all forms of training and club activities until at least April four as part of matches being postponed due to the outbreak of the virus.
According to reports, the board of directors at Barcelona held a series of meetings electronically to assess the developing situation and formulate a plan over the coming weeks in line with the rest of Europe’s elite clubs.
The reports claim that one of the options discussed was pay-cuts for players and coaching staff at the club, but no decision on the matter is expected to be announced before the end of next week.
This isn’t the first time a Clubside is doing this as Scottish clubs, Hearts FC had done something similar, and it could lead to many more clubs taking the same action.
The Covid-19 pandemic has been ravaging the world with League, and club football across the world postponed while players have been tested positive as the virus spreads.
Already, La Liga president Javier Tebas disclosed earlier this week that top European Leagues and European competitions are being planned to restart in May after the Union of European Football Association (UEFA) shifted the European Championships (Euro 2020) till 2021.
The shift in the Euro’s schedule means European leagues have time enough to complete the schedule of their fixtures this season, and Tebas disclosed that there is a need to co-ordinate all the affected competitions both on the national and international level.
“There are 30 affected leagues, 30 cup tournaments, and we have to co-ordinate each schedule at both a national and international level,” Tebas was quoted by BBC.
Furthermore, he stated that the situation should allow the date for resumption could be brought forward from Mid-May.
