Bayern Munich got back to winning ways at the Allianz Arena with a 4-0 win over their counterparts F.C Köln on Saturday as the current titleholders return to the top of the log temporarily.
The Bavarians quickly opened the scoring through Robert Lewandowski following some excellent build-up play in the midfield. But they failed to create any further high scoring chances during the first 45 minutes as Philippe Coutinho’s free-kick hits the crossbar.
As the second half begins, Lewandowski kicked off in style by nodding home a Joshua Kimmich’s beautiful corner to double Bayern’s lead. Coutinho won a penalty after Kingsley Ehizibue had brought him down in the box, sent off and we’re reduced to 10- men.
Coutinho wonderfully dispatched it by sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to make it 3-0 up-making it his first goal for the club. The Brazilian then set up Ivan Perišić for the fourth goal of the game as Bayern cruised to win in front of their home fans.
Despite the scoreline, Bayern maintains its dominance and performance having approached both halves in a brilliant fashion. The Bavarians were lackluster in the possession and were open to counter attacks from köln, especially in the first half.
However, the big difference in quality between both squads in the second half was displayed in the second-half performance of the Bavarians as they romped to victory. Once again, the manager had to rely on individual brilliance as his stars Lewandowski and Coutinho bailed the team out again.
With the fans having doubts on whether Niko Kovac is the right man for the job, this performance hasn’t given them the benefit of the doubt despite the margin in the victory.
Bayern will visit Paderborn in their next match in what should be an easy win for them as they look to take the driving seat at the top of the log, while Köln host Hertha Berlin need to be at the top of their game to avoid the relegation waters.
Bayern Munich are available at 1.16 to win their next fixture against Paderborn. Paderborn are fancied at 15.32 to cause an upset.
