Bayern defender lay claims to national team squad

    April 10, 2024

Bayern Munich defender Eric Dier is seeking a return to the Three Lions after a break of over sixteen months from the national side. Dier’s last appearance for England was in the World Cup last-16 win over Senegal in December 2022, and he’s not added to the 49 caps he has since then.

The former Tottenham defender joined Bayern Munich in January, and he believes he’s playing the best football of his career. He wants to return to the national team.

“Since the World Cup, I wouldn’t say that I’ve had any dip in form. I’m playing the best football of my career since (Antonio) Conte came (to manage Tottenham in 2021) and I’ve carried it on since. People think that I’m 37 or something, but I’m 30 years old and am nowhere near the end of my prime, and imagine that this will be my prime. I want to be a part of the England set-up and I believe that I should be a part of it, that I’m that level of a player.” Dier said.

30-year-old Eric Dier made his national team debut for the Three Lions in 2015, and he managed to be featured in three international competitions, with one Euro Championship in 2016 and two FIFA World Cups.

Eric Dyer had only played ten times for Bayern Munich in all competitions this season before Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League clash with Arsenal in the quarterfinals at Emirates.

Bayern Munich only has the UEFA Champions League as their remaining chance of winning silverware this season as Bayer Leverkusen looks destined for the Bundesliga title and the DFB Pokal, which Bayern has been long eliminated.

The Bundesliga giants will face FC Koln at the weekend in the Bundesliga, and anything other than a win will ultimately crown Bayer Leverkusen as the German league champion for the first time in its history.
