Reports emanating from Germany and other agencies say that Bayern Munich is showing interest in RB Leipzig Defender Dayot Upamecano.
The vast center-back is also a target for Premier League side Arsenal this winter and many other top clubs in Europe.
Bayern is looking to replace Jerome Boateng, who looks set to leave the Bavarians this summer and Arsenal are reported to be the rumored suitors to snap up the German.
There were past claims that Bayern was previously interested in the Frenchman in 2016. Still, the then technical director [Micheal Reschke] turned down the possible signature and touted it as a wrong decision.
If such claims were to be accurate, then that’s a massive error on the path of Reschke. He made up for it by singing Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry, and Kingsley Coman. There won’t be any grudges held against him [Micheal], but one would wonder how it would have been having Upamecano in the heart of Bayern defense.
Some rumors have it that Bayern was willing to get Upamecano last year but failed as the fee quoted by RB Leipzig was too enormous. A transfer might be more realistic this time around as his contract expires in 2021with no hopes of an extension.
Upamecano has his injury record at least to a minimum, but he is a force to be reckoned with at the back and an excellent passer of the ball with great vision.
If the price quoted [€50m] when Arsenal was knocking on his door, then I think Bayern will see it as a fair price to snap up the Frenchman.
