Portugal midfielder Bernardo Silva has signed a new contract at Manchester City until 2026. The Portuguese’s contract was set to expire in 2025, but he has now signed a one-year extension.
The 29-year-old midfielder, who scored seven goals last season for the treble winners, was courted by clubs from Saudi Arabia and Barcelona in La Liga but has now chosen to stay at the Premier League club as he revealed that he wants more success.
“I’ve had six incredible years at Manchester City, and I’m delighted to extend my time here. Winning the Treble last season was extremely special, and it’s exciting to be part of a squad where there is such a hunger and passion. Success makes you want even more, and this club gives me that opportunity to keep on winning. I love the manager, my teammates, and the fans and hope we can share even more great memories in the coming years.” Silva said.
His contract extension is coming just as Manchester City will miss Kevin De Bruyne, who has been injured for the next four months at least. Manchester City also have agreed a deal for Jeremy Doku for around £55M from French side Stade Rennes. The Belgian forward will join the Premier League champions and treble winners from last season.
Elsewhere, Chelsea is part of four club sides who are interested in the signing of Arsenal forward Folarin Balogun. Italians Inter Milan and French club Monaco are also interested in the services of the striker.
The 22-year-old scored 22 goals for Reims in the Ligue 1 side Reims last season and is rated around £50M by Arsenal, although it is understood that the Blues are yet to make a bid for the frontman.
Inter Milan are also looking to sign a striker as their pursuit for Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku has failed, while Monaco have been impressed by his exploits in the Ligue 1 last season.
