Brazil begin Copa America with 3-0 win over Venezuela

    June 14, 2021

Brazil came out winners in their match against Venezuela as the 2021 Copa America kicked off.

Despite all the challenges and issues, the 47th edition of the Copa América began in earnest as Brazil played their match against Venezuela.

The 2021 Copa America was supposed to be the first in history, that will be hosted by two countries, which are Argentina and Columbia. However, Columbia were stripped of their hosting rights in May 2021, because of unrest in the country due to political unrest going on against the country’s President. While Argentina also declined to host the tournament after some top government officials in the country expressed concerns over the tournament, as a result of the current COVID-19 health crisis.

The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) came to a decision that  Brazil would singlehandedly host the 2021 Copa America, which is scheduled to take place from the 13th of June to the 10th of July 2021.

The tournament kicked off with the opening game of Brazil versus Venezuela. The Selecao won the game by a comprehensive 3-0 scoreline.

Brazil lined up with a frontline of Neymar Jr, Richarlison, and Gabriel Jesus. Eder Militao and Marquinhos were the preferred centre-back pairing for Brazil coach, Tire.

Brazil began the game on the front foot and got the lead from Marquinhos in the 23rd minute. Marquinhos gave them the lead in the first half after he scored from a corner. The samba boys completely dominated the game and should have had more goals after creating some great chances.

The next soon came as Neymar doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the second half. Ecuador defender Cumana fouled Danilo in the box, and the referee pointed to the spot. Neymar stepped up and calmly slotted the ball past Graterol. In the 89th minute, Gabi came off the bench to wrap it up when he scored from Neymar’s cross.

Next up for Brazil is Peru, while Venezuela, who got off to a losing start, will be hoping to bounce back against Colombia in the next game.
