Brighton hope to keep Alexis Mac Allister after brilliant World Cup outing

    December 20, 2022

Brighton chief executive Paul Barber has stated that the club hopes to keep Argentinian midfielder Alexis Mac Allister for as long as possible

This came after the 23-year-old won the FIFA World Cup on Sunday with Argentina and even set up one of the most iconic World Cup goals in the 3-3 draw that was later decided on penalties.

Alexis Mac Allister played six games out of a possible 7 for Argentina at the World Cup and assisted Angel di Maria’s second goal as Argentina went on to play a 3-3 draw in 120 minutes.

While Kylian Mbappe scored a hat-trick for France, Messi scored a goal on either side of Di Maria’s beautiful goal. The midfielder has scored five goals in fourteen Premier League games for the Seagulls this season and the club’s Chief Executive, Paul Barber, now knows that it’s only a matter of time before top guns eye him.

“a nice problem to have, of course, when staff and players do well, as we’ve seen in the last few months, they do attract the interest of other big clubs. These are clubs that are wealthier and have the chance to give players a new level; we understand that, and we’re not naive to that. All we can do is protect ourselves the best we can through the contracts and hope we can hold on to the player for as long as possible,” Paul Barber said.

Mac Allister scored a goal in the six games at the World Cup in Qatar in addition to the eight appearances he had before the Mundial since his national team debut in 2019.

He has over 80 appearances for the Seagulls since joining from Argentinos Junior in 2019.

The 23-year-old will return to England as Brighton faces Charlton on Wednesday, 21 December, in the EFL Cup.
