Burnley Get Much-Needed 1-0 Win Over Sheffield United; 4 Straight Unbeaten Games at Home for the Clarets

    December 31, 2020

Despite losing the battle of possession, Burnley turned on the defensive clamps at Turf Moor for a 1-0 win over Sheffield United, a side struggling in 2020. Bee Mee’s sole header in the first half was enough for Burnley’s second straight home win.

Sheffield are winless through 16 fixtures this season, having lost four of their last five.

Despite the positive outcome, the Clarets did suffer a loss to their defense as Charlie Taylor left the pitch early on due to a hamstring injury. This is the latest for Sean Dyche who is now without the likes of Jay Rodriguez, Jack Cork, Johann Berg Gudmundsson or McNeil as of this week.

The side did get Robbie Brady back in the lineup, though, and the impact was felt immediately as he lined up Ben Mee for the opening and only goal of the day.

Turf Moor is slowly re-emerging as a tough out for opponents, with Burnley now registering four unbeaten games at home — three of which resulted in victories. This relative dominance at home has helped in the standings as they keep trending away from the relegation zone heading into the January transfer window.

Burnley attacked early, led by Ashley Barnes, but came up short on two strong opportunities (Barnes, Rhian Brewster). Commentators and media alike referred to the Clarets’ home performance as ‘clinical’ despite the opponent winning the possession of time battle.
